Intertexuality

Intertexuality is a term to describe the visual referencing between films. Quite literally, films 'borrow' from each other, and you, , the audience, may recognise certain camera angles, aspects of mise en scene, snippets of sound or methods of editing in some films that you have seen in others.

In today's lesson we looked at intertextuality and how these refer to various horror films made in this day and age. We looked at psycho and the elements in the film and how the scenes from this film have been borrowed in to modern day films. The film psycho was the very first slasher scene genre the very first horror movie and made the first revolution of horror movies to be made.

We compared other films to psycho to see what elements have been borrowed and compared them.

We compared What Lies beneath to Psycho.
The aspects borrowed from Psycho are scenes where we see the use of water and the shower, shower curtains and the shocked looking woman.
