EVALUATION COMPLETE

I have completed all my evaluations! :)

EVALUATION:Q7

LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT

EVALUATION: Q6

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?

In the process of constructing this product i have used final cut pro, soundtrack pro a JVC GY/ H100 camera, a tripod and a camera light stand.

i have used all these combinations of technology to make my opening scene a  constructive film where it would look and feel like a high budget film where the lighting and how the camera angles are angled at the actress would look professional and the sound would make the film feel alive.  Firstly i have used the camera angles that i have learnt to give the film an emphasis and more of a flow instead of one camera angle like a close up making the film feel stiff and unflowable. for example

This is a long shot we wanted this angle because we wanted a shot of the character walking way from the camera where she would suddenly disappear.

secondly i used final cut pro to edit the film together to make it flow and look realistic. for example

Thirdly i used sound track pro to add music to the film and give it that edge of thriller and sense of tension in the film. for example,

i also used the lighting to make certain scenes in the film brighter where we only needed a tiny bit of light to make it scary and show the emotions on the characters face, for example,

i also used the editing on the final cut pro to make a title sequence. for example

and finally i edited scenes to make them look dreamy for example i used sepia for certain scenes where the dead little girl would come onto the camera,

EVALUATION 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Conventions of a film opening are methods that often use certain common conventions for conveying meaning through particular camera and editing to make it an effective film opening.

Our media product is an opening scene to Affliction of Memory which we made using different elements of mise en scene, camera work, editing and the use of characters.

For our film we decided that we would challenge the typical film convention as we had made the mother the main character in our film opening scene. The main focus was the mother and her emotions towards the deceased child. We focused on her reaction for example the crying and depressing states she would be in and her body language. We based it around a Psychological thriller. We didn't use much mise en scene as our ideas for the film opening didn't need many props as it was a simple idea where we only needed a white dress, wine, cigarettes, ashtray, lighter, fake blood and a wine glass. We also used minimal sound throughout the whole video which was taken from sound track pro. The sound is very intense and builds up to make tension which gives it that psychological thrill. The camera work we used was mainly mid close ups and close ups. The editing was just fadeins and credits. We also had a location  which as was at a church grave yard in upper street islington.

We adapted our idea for our film opening scene from the film orphan. We mainly took the concept of the creepy little girl as we thought this was scary and would make our thriller opening a compelling and scary one attracting audiences from 15 and over.

You can see that we adapted this concept for our own image of a little girl pretending to be creepy.

The emotions on a persons face makes a situation scarier  and where they are placed in a scene, for example the image above this one we can see the little girl standing in a dingy background, with an evil expression and  beady black eyes.  On the other hand looking at our own image we tried to get the same mise en scene, this can be seen from the icy cold background and the blank expression on the girls face looking into the camera lens.

We had various camera  shots for example,

 This is a long shot

This is a medium close up

This is a close up

This is a over the shoulder shot

The props and location that we used are:

We filmed in St Marys church upper street islington.

These are our props and the picture of the corner of a room is where we filmed our other half the film in a house in bethnal green

BLOOPERS XD

pictures of the group editing affliction of memory!

Theses are pictures of our group working on Affliction of memory, adding sounds, editing and cutting and pasting.

The Costume we used in Affliction of Memory the final result!

This is the blood stained dress that was put on by Sasha's sister who played being Sashas daughter. This dress was worn by her which will be seen in our opening scene. =) soon to be prevailed

Props for Affliction of Memory

This is a picture of tea which was used to create an effect of ageing pictures where we used the tea bag to rub some tea staines onto the pictures.

These are the images we used which was photocopied and then we used the tea bags to rub some tea onto the pictures to give it the effect of an old fading picture.

This is the final result of the images being stained with the tea which resulted in having the old fading effect which then was cut out and used in our opening scene. :)

When filming our opening:

Before filming half of our film opening in St Mary church we had to create the costume of the bloody white top. We did this by appplying an already made blood mixture which was made by Nhadia. We had to apply to the plain white top, we had to apply enough blood in order to make the blood look believable as if the little girl has been murdered.

Above is us applying the "blood mixture" on to the top. This was a messy part of us preparing our mise en scene as the blood got everywhere.  After when applying enough blood to the top we had to wait around for 15-20 as we had to wait for the blood to dry. We also applied blood onto the little girls hands.

Part 2 of our filming was done in Nhadia's aunty house, our filming took place in the living room corner. The props we used for this was wine bottle and glass, ashtray and cigarette, old photos. We choose to use these props as we thought that these props was sinister for the mother to make her character look stressed and depressed.

Filming Photos

After filming for our opening sequence Affliction of Memory, Nhadia and Sasha went back to St Mary's Church in upper street islington to film some more scenes needed for our final production. The images show the same specific places that we originally shot some of our scenes.
Here are images:

This is a image of Nhadia filming Sasha's footage of one particular scene. She is looking closely to the camera to see if the framing and checking if the footage appears out of focus.
This image shows Sasha adjusting the camera properly so that it is even with the stand as we want  our scenes to be still and not unbalanced.
This image is a shot taken by Nhadia of Sasha after filming.
This image is of Sasha stood still to see the reaction of the character which relates to the last scene where she thinks her daughter (sister) is still alive however it is in her mind that her daughter is still around. She sees her daughter although it is her imagining her.
This is an image of the trees that Sasha's daughter (sister) stands by where Sasha sees her but when she turns back she is no where to be seen.
This is an image of another tree where we previously shot are scenes at. We previously covered fake blood over it to make the scene look more frantic and spooky.
This is a brief image of the park itself in St Mary's Church.
This is an image of blocks of flats behind the park and we shot a few scenes here of Sasha's daughter (sister) walking towards the camera.
The final image is showing the back of the church.
